ALEJANDRO SILVA ORTIZ

Lawyer, cum laude mention, graduated from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in 2004 (Caracas, Venezuela). He obtained the degree of Doctor of Law (Ph.D.), unanimously cum laude, at the University of Navarra in 2011 (Pamplona, Spain). As part of his doctoral studies, he did a research stay at Fordham University as Visiting Scholar Researcher in 2009 (New York, United States). In 2022, he attended the Program in International Taxation at IE Law School (Madrid, Spain).

Professional experience

From 2004 to 2014 he was an associate attorney at the firm D ’Empaire (Caracas, Venezuela) and, subsequently, since 2014, he has served as international legal advisor to the Máh! Group, a baby food company that operates in several Latin American countries. He was also an international legal advisor to Escalabeds Group, a company that operates in America and Europe in the online hotel booking business.

His professional experience has focused on offering his clients international corporate advice on commercial and contractual negotiation, tax planning, customs, regulatory and trademark matters. His professional practice has allowed him to understand the specific business needs of clients within the scope of their international operations and, as a consequence, provide comprehensive legal advice tailored to their products and services.

Academic experience

He has been a professor at the Faculty of Law of the Universidad Monteávila (Caracas, Venezuela), the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (Caracas, Venezuela) and visiting professor at the University of Navarra (Pamplona, Spain). He was part of the team of researchers of the Project "Governance in Administrative Procedures for Risk Management" funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation of the Government of Spain and is a member of the Advisory Council of the Journal "Law and Society" of the Faculty of Law from the Universidad Monteávila.

He has been a speaker and author of national and international legal publications in the University of Navarra and the University of Granada in Spain, King's College London in London, Fordham University in New York, as well as in the Electronic Journal of Venezuelan Administrative Law, the “Law and Society” Magazine of the Universidad Monteávila and the Venezuelan Commercial Law Magazine.

CARLOS ALTIMARI

Lawyer, graduated from the Universidad del Zulia in 2002 (Maracaibo, Venezuela). He obtained the degree of Specialist in Corporate Law at the Metropolitan University in 2005 (Caracas, Venezuela). Likewise, he obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from the University of Southern California in 2019 (Los Angeles, United States), with certificates in Transnational Law & Business and Business Law.

Professional experience

During 2005 and 2006 he was Senior Lawyer of the Firm Pérez-Duin Gutiérrez D’Corte Rivero & Asociados (Caracas, Venezuela) and, subsequently, from 2006 to 2010 he served as Legal Manager of Compañía Brahma Venezuela S.A. (Ambev), a multinational beverage company that operates worldwide. Likewise, from 2013 to 2017 he was Director of the State of Miranda Governor’s Office (Venezuela). Currently, he was appointed as an arbitrator at the Maracaibo’s Chamber of Commerce Arbitration Center.

His professional experience has focused on offering his clients corporate advice on international trade, mergers and acquisitions, hydrocarbons and matters related to the public sector, as well as on commercial, labor, regulatory and trademark negotiation issues. During his professional practice, he has focused on serving and understanding the specific business needs of his clients within the framework of their national and international operations in order to provide comprehensive legal advice tailored to their products and business models.

Academic experience

He has been a professor at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Universidad Monteávila (Caracas, Venezuela). Likewise, he was Coordinator of the Programme in Hydrocarbons Law at the Universidad Monteávila (Caracas, Venezuela).

HOMERO MORENO RIERA

Lawyer graduated from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in 1999 (Caracas, Venezuela). He obtained the degrees of Specialist in Corporate Law at the Metropolitan University in 2020 (Caracas, Venezuela) and Specialist in Legal Assistance at Cooper Career Institute in 2001 (West Palm Beach, Florida, United States of America). Likewise, he also completed the Diploma in Administrative Law at JUDEC Centro de Estudio y Desarrollo Jurídico, the Diploma in Advanced Studies in Economic Regulation Law at the Universidad Metropolitana, the Diploma in Administrative Law at the Universidad of Buenos Aires (UBA), and Diploma of Harvardx, Contract Law: From Trust to Promise to Contract, at Harvard University. He was a Fellow of the XII CAN-BID / INTAL Integration Training Program (2004). Also, since 2006 he is a Public Interpreter in English.

Professional experience

In 1999 he was a Paralegal at The Crenshaw Law Firm (Florida, United States of America) and, later, a lawyer at Aquiles Blanco & Asociados (Caracas, Venezuela). From 2001 to 2006, he worked in the Public Administration in Venezuela as a Competition Specialist in the Superintendency for the Promotion and Protection of Free Competition (Pro-Competencia) and, later, as Director of Technical Regulations in the National Autonomous Standardization Service , Quality, Metrology and Technical Regulations (SENCAMER). Likewise, from 2006 to 2010 he was an in-house lawyer for the INELECTRA Group and, since 2010, he has been Corporate Manager of Legal Affairs of the same Group.

His professional experience has been concentrated in the areas of Public and Regulatory Law, acquisitions and free competition, corporate and corporate affairs, oil & gas, as well as in the formulation and evaluation of IPC projects. In this way, his professional practice has allowed him to provide comprehensive advice to his clients, offering an understanding of their businesses both in the field of Public and Commercial Law at a national and international level.

Academic experience

He has been an invited lecturer by the Marcus Evans company in the areas of Corporate Law, Oil & Gas and Compliance, visiting professor of Competition Law, Restrictive Practices of Free Competition, Unfair Competition and Administrative Procedures in different universities and professional chambers in Venezuela, as well as tenured professor of translation of legal documents in the Legal Translation Program of the Universidad Metropolitana (Caracas, Venezuela).

ALBERTO RUIZ BLANCO

Lawyer, cum laude, graduated from the Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in 1994 (Caracas, Venezuela). In 1997 he obtained a Master's degree in Territorial Planning and Urbanism from the Universidad Carlos III (Madrid, Spain) and, in 2009, he completed a DiplomaCourse in Hydrocarbons Law at the Universidad Monteávila (Caracas, Venezuela).

Professional experience

From 1994 to 2015, he was a consulting partner at D'Empaire Law Firm in Caracas, Venezuela and, since 2015, he dedicated himself to free and independent practice.

His experience has been developed in the areas of Procedural, Constitutional and Labor Law, carrying out the definition of defense strategies for different local and transnational clients, representing them within the scope of administrative and judicial procedures of special complexity. Likewise, he has extensive experience in providing labor consulting services in matters of hiring and personnel restructuring, salary planning, termination of labor relations and assistance in inspection and control procedures, as well as in litigation related to said specialty.

Academic experience

He has been a professor of urban planning at the Universidad Simón Bolívar (Caracas, Venezuela) and professor of Environmental Law in the specialization of Corporate Law at the Universidad Metropolitana (Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela). He has published specialized articles for various legal journals and has been invited as a speaker at various academic events nationally and internationally.

JUAN JOSÉ SUÁREZ MUÑOZ

Lawyer graduated from Universidad Central de Venezuela in 2001 (Caracas, Venezuela). From 2004 to 2007, he did an specialization in Commercial Law at the same University, and in 2011, he obtained the degree of Specialist in Alternative Dispute Resolution at the University of Salamanca (Salamanca, Spain).

Professional experience

From 2002 to 2005 he was Head Secretary at the Juzgado Segundo de Primera Instancia en lo Civil, Mercantil y del Tránsito de la Circunscripción Judicial del Área Metropolitana de Caracas. Subsequently, between 2005 and 2009, he was Associated Lawyer III at the Juzgado de Sustanciación de la Corte Segunda de lo Contencioso Administrativo. From 2009, he was member of the law firm Henríquez La Roche, Galindez & Maurell.

He has extensive experience in civil and commercial litigation, as well as in arbitration. He has represented and defended the interests of our clients in judicial and arbitration disputes, implementing strategies related with the request of precautionary measures.

Furthermore, he offers a valuable advisory to our clients in the design and execution of judicial settlements.

Lawyer, magna cum laude mention, and accountant, cum laude mention, graduated from Universidad de Los Andes in 2005 and 2006, respectively (Merida, Venezuela). He obtained the degree of Specialist in Tax Law winning the thesis publishing prize. He also attended the advanced programs in Corporate Finance in Universidad Central de Venezuela (Caracas, Venezuela) and International Taxation in the University of Maastricht (Maastricht, Netherlands).

Professional experience

From 2023, he is a partner in SLV Consultores and HBMC Group. He previously was senior associate in Nerubay Abogados in the tax consultancy area (Mexico City, Mexico), as well as associate lawyer in Baker & McKenzie, Deloitte, and d’Empaire in the areas of tax consulting and litigation (Caracas, Venezuela).

Academic experience

He is member of Asociación Venezolana de Derecho Tributario (AVDT) and Asociación Fiscal Internacional (IFA, Venezuelan chapter). In 2015, he was recognized as young leader in tax litigation for Venezuela by the prestigious International Tax Review. He has been invited professor in Universidad Católica del Táchira and Universidad Católica Andrés Bello (Venezuela). He has published multiple articles related to international and local taxation in Venezuela, Colombia, Guatemala, Peru, and Mexico.
